June 3 - Indonesian Heritage Society "Rumahku" series, Jakarta. Talk: On the brink of going Back to the Villages: plans, hopes, issues and reactions.  Short summary: I look forward to meeting members of the Indonesian Heritage Society. When I see you, it will be just hours, literally, before I return to North Sumatra to begin that most wonderful of all tasks that an anthropologist could have: giving the product of my research to the weavers who helped me. Only then will my book, Legacy in cloth, Batak textiles of North Sumatra, a work of some 30 years, finally be complete. When I meet with the IHS, I would like to share the rationale of this Back to the Villages plan and the, at times rather unexpected, reactions that I have received to the project. They have been reactions that given me pause to re-think, revise, sometimes to laugh, but eventually to definitely proceed with the plan. I also welcome the opportunity to thank The Indonesian Heritage Society in person for the crucial support that you have given me during the planning stages of this project.
